Why bedroom count alone does not tell the whole story
People often begin planning a move by asking how many boxes are needed for a one-, two- or three-bedroom home. Bedroom count is useful, but it is only the beginning. Two households with the same floor plan can have dramatically different packing needs. One family may keep only everyday essentials, while another has full bookshelves, holiday decorations, children’s toys, craft supplies, pantry goods, garage tools and years of stored belongings.
Totey’s Move Meter looks at several practical factors so the recommendation feels more personal than a basic bedroom chart. It considers whether you are moving a dorm, apartment, house or office; the number of rooms or work areas; extra storage spaces; the amount you own; and how much of the move you intend to pack inside totes. The result directs you toward the 20-, 40- or 60-tote package.
The recommendation should be treated as a starting point. Reusable totes are ideal for many items that would normally go into moving boxes, including clothing, kitchenware, books in sensible quantities, toys, linens, office supplies, small décor and pantry items that are properly sealed. Large furniture, mattresses, televisions, mirrors, artwork and appliances need other packing and transportation solutions.
It is also important to think about how you pack. A careful packer who fills open spaces without overloading may use totes more efficiently than someone who places only a few items in each container. At the same time, no tote should be packed so heavily that it becomes unsafe to lift. The goal is not to squeeze an entire household into the fewest containers possible. The goal is to create manageable, organized loads that help the move go more smoothly.

Before You Reserve
Walk through every room and count the spaces people forget
Before accepting the recommendation, take a short inventory walk. Open closets, cabinets and pantry doors. Look under beds and on high shelves. Check the laundry room, porch, garage, attic, shed and storage unit. Customers frequently underestimate these hidden spaces because they are not part of the main living area, yet they may contain a large share of the items that need to be packed.
Books deserve special attention. They fit well in totes, but they become heavy quickly. Instead of dedicating an entire tote to books, mix a manageable layer of books with lighter objects such as towels or linens. The same principle applies to canned goods, dishes, tools and files. A container that technically closes may still be too heavy to move safely.
Decide which items should not go into the totes. Hazardous materials, leaking liquids, flammable substances, perishable food, illegal items and anything likely to stain or contaminate the equipment are prohibited. Specialty belongings may need original packaging, wardrobe boxes, padded cases or professional handling. Totes are moisture-resistant, but they are not advertised as watertight, floodproof or suitable for uncontrolled outdoor storage.
Finally, look at your calendar. Every package includes a two-week rental period. Choose delivery timing that gives you enough time to pack before moving day and unpack before scheduled pickup. Is Totey’s recommendation guaranteed to be enough?
No. It is a planning estimate based on the answers provided. Every household is different, and the business cannot see the volume, shape or weight of your belongings through the calculator.
What should I do when my result is close to the next package?
Review closets, storage spaces and dense collections. When you expect to pack most safe boxable items and are genuinely between choices, the larger available package may provide a more comfortable margin.
Can I order a number between 20 and 40?
The published packages are sets of 20, 40 and 60. Contact Valdosta Tote Rentals if your move has unusual needs, but do not assume custom quantities are available.
Does the estimate include furniture?
No. The calculator estimates reusable tote capacity for appropriate boxable items. Furniture, mattresses, appliances and many oversized or fragile items need separate packing and transportation.
Can two roommates share one recommendation?
They can, but both roommates’ belongings must be included in every answer. It may be easier for each person to estimate separately and then compare the combined total with the available packages.
What if I need more than 60 totes?
Contact the business to discuss inventory and scheduling. Do not submit multiple reservations without confirming that the intended arrangement is available.
Does using the Move Meter reserve totes?
No. It only provides a recommendation. Submit an availability request and wait for confirmation of inventory, dates, delivery eligibility, payment procedures and rental terms.
Are the package prices all-inclusive?
Each published price includes the listed tote quantity, dollies, two weeks, and free delivery and pickup within the included 25-mile area, subject to availability, access requirements and the rental agreement. Optional extensions or other disclosed charges are separate.
