Heavy items on the bottom
Place heavier items low and lighter or softer items on top. Spread books, dishes and other dense belongings across multiple totes rather than making one container excessively heavy.
Keep everything below the rim
The yellow lid should close completely without forcing it. Do not overfill a tote or allow items to interfere with the lid.
Label every tote
Use removable labels or another non-damaging method to identify the room and contents. Keep frequently needed items and first-night essentials easy to access.
Protect fragile and liquid items
Use appropriate cushioning for breakables and sealed bags for liquids. Moisture-resistant does not mean waterproof, so protect electronics, documents and valuables according to the item and conditions.

Use safe lifting practices, keep walkways clear and do not overload totes or dollies. Totes are moisture resistant rather than waterproof. Specialty items such as televisions, artwork, mirrors, hanging garments, mattresses and highly fragile belongings may require purpose-built packing materials.
